The traditional method of sealing the roofs and walls of toilets and bathrooms is to use Qirguni or Izogam materials. But today, in advanced countries, another type of alternative material is used for sealing purposes. This new method is called white insulation (if it is used on the roof, it is also called white roof). White insulation or white roof is a type of completely waterproof coating that is made on the basis of polymers and acrylic materials. These materials They are completely compatible with the environment and to use them, they can be combined with water and achieve the desired product. White insulation or white roof has many advantages.
This product can be used on all vertical and horizontal surfaces that need sealing. The basic materials for the production of this product are acrylic or polymer products. These materials can be used on all concrete, wooden, metal, cement, mosaic, asphalt and isogam surfaces. The only limitation of their use is the presence of fat or soil, as well as the presence of algae and moss on the surface, and in this case, they cannot be used.
Advantages of using white insulation or white roof
He stated the most important reasons and advantages of using white insulation or white roof as follows:
- Easy implementation
Excellent adhesion compared to Isogam and Qirguni to all kinds of vertical, horizontal and inclined surfaces, maintaining elasticity at very low temperatures (-30 degrees Celsius) or very high temperatures (+120 degrees Celsius) preventing the entry of light and its heat into the structure (prevents up to 80% of the sun's light and heat) and prevents heat loss inside the building
- UV resistant
- Resistant to creating seams and cracks in different weather conditions
- High durability of the product
- Not absorbing dust and maintaining a clean surface
- Resistant to chemical and industrial substances and polluting particles in the air
- Ability to walk in extreme cold and heat
- Easy repair if damaged
- Application of white insulation or white roof
- Applications of white insulation:
- Sealing pools and water tanks
- Sealing toilets and bathrooms
- Green roof and green facade sealing
- Complete sealing of the roof
- Fixing the leakage of Izogam or Qirguni
- Sealing the foundations of buildings
- Sealing of galvanized sheets and metal deck roofs
- Concrete sealing
- Surface breathability
In order to make concrete and achieve the desired performance in concrete, some additional water must be present in the concrete to reach the fluidity usable for users. In concrete, some water is used for the cement hydration reaction and the rest contributes to the fluidity and efficiency of the concrete. This excess water takes a long time to be removed from the concrete. This is called concrete breathing. If we remove it by heating the concrete surface, its final quality will be reduced. Because the end parts of the concrete have never been heated like the beginning parts, and as a result, the water in the upper part of the concrete comes out earlier and more than the lower part. This causes thermal gradient and hydraulic gradient in concrete and can reduce the final quality of concrete.
If waterproofing is used to seal the concrete surface, the mentioned problems will arise due to the heat that must be given to it during execution. Also, in this case, it is not possible to breathe concrete.
The use of white insulation or white roof, in addition to the possibility of concrete breathing, does not create hydraulic gradient and temperature gradient. Therefore, for concrete surfaces, it is strongly recommended to use white insulation or white roofing for sealing.
The steps of implementing white insulation or white roof
The most important issue in the proper implementation of white insulation or white roof is cleaning the work surface. First, the surface under the insulation work should be cleaned well from any dust. This can be done with the help of water pressure.
To implement it, you must have a completely flat surface. For this purpose, the damaged parts must be repaired. Also, the parts that are shelled or damaged should also be repaired.
The raised parts should be separated and the sunken parts should be repaired with the help of polymer cement. If the surface under the work is isogam, it should be completely connected to the ceiling with a flame. Then, in order to properly connect the insulation to the repaired area, fiberglass mesh should be placed on it. After the mortar dries, it should be filled with better bonding glue. After about 6 hours, you can apply a layer of white insulation or white roof on the roof. Of course, it should be ensured that the applied surface is immediately covered with a special fiberglass mesh. At this stage, the second layer of insulation can be applied on the roof with a roller.
White insulation products or white roof
As mentioned, white insulation or white roof products are based on polymer materials and acrylic materials.
The general specifications of each of these products are as follows:
- Acrylic insulation
- One-component acrylic insulation can be combined with water and polymer paints and the resulting product can be used directly as a waterproofing. This insulation is one of the most widely used products in this field.
- Advantages of single component acrylic insulation
- Unification of the final color of the pool or water tank and its waterproof cover
- Excellent adhesion to all types of surfaces
- Ability to be used as an adhesive in strapping powder
- reduction in costs
- High technical characteristics and good performance
- Resistant to sunlight, cold and heat
- Resistant to deposits, carbonate, gasoline, alcohol, acid
- Disadvantages of single component acrylic insulation
- It should not come into contact with skin and eyes
Polymer insulation
If special polymer powders are used in combination with water for sealing, it is called powder polymer insulation. These materials seal their work surfaces on a molecular scale.
The most important advantages and disadvantages of these materials are as follows:
- Advantages of powder insulation
- No need for specialized and skilled personnel
- Suitable combination with color
- Simple implementation
- Watering pools and water tanks after only three days
- low price
- Long life (the same life as concrete and cement)
- Suitable for sealing drinking water tanks
